His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office in a sabda stressed on the urgent need to enhance resilience and deepen cooperation in order to safeguard the food security of the people, amid pressure upon food systems across Asia and the Pacific, including climate change and ongoing geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East. Hence, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince emphasised that food security must remain at the very centre of the collective efforts. His Royal Highness made the sabda at the launching of the 38th Session of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Regional Conference for Asia and Pacific (APRC). It was held at The Empire Brunei, Jerudong.

 

Upon arrival, His Royal Highness was greeted by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism as the event's Advisor, and His Excellency Doctor Qu Dongyu, Director-General of FAO.

 

The reading of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat were led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Awang Haji Salim bin Haji Besar.

 

The event's Advisor in the welcoming remarks among other things highlighted that Brunei Darussalam remains committed to advancing a sustainable agricultural food system.

 

His Royal Highness in the sabda said that Brunei Darussalam is committed to strengthening the food systems through innovation in food science and technology, advancing sustainable agricultural practices, and developing downstream value chains.

 

In the sabda, His Royal Highness also highlighted that challenges before us are significant, but they can be overcome with the the commitment to act together.

 

In a speech, the Director-General of FAO underlined the importance of international cooperation in strengthening the agrifood sector and ensuring global food security.

 

For the very first time, Brunei Darussalam through the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism is hosting the 38th Session of the FAO Regional Conference for Asia and the Pacific. The conference served as an official platform for ministers and senior officials to discuss food security issues, and to formulate strategic directions to enhance regional cooperation and cohesion in the agricultural sector at the global level.
